The Priests House is often called a ‘fairytale’ venue, combining the authentic grade-1 listed 15th-century Chapel with the beauty and tranquillity of the Yorkshire Dales countryside, and we truly value that. Although situated in a magical location, our dedication & drive to deliver outstanding service, keen attention to detail and delicious food is completely real.
We love weddings. We have hosted weddings at The Priests House for over twenty years now - first in the Oak Room and then inside the Chapel after we restored it in 2016. After all these years we still never tire of guests first reaction when they enter the Chapel for the first time, or of being a part of people's joyful memories and important days.
We are proud of how professional and friendly our team are, of the packages that we provide and of our desire to keep improving and offering the best possible venue to host your special day.
When you choose The Priests House as your wedding venue, we promise:
- Exclusivity of the grade-1 listed venue, with no other weddings or customers on the day. This includes use of The Oak Room, The Chapel and our beautiful and peaceful grounds
- A mesmerising space for weddings of all sizes – whether an elopement for the couple to a maximum capacity of 76 for a wedding breakfast and 85 for the evening reception
- No shortage of incredible backdrops for your photo's, both on-site and in any direction off-site
- Use of our large portfolio of decorations and our creativity to make your wedding day look spectacular – the vast majority of décor is included as part of your wedding, so you do not need to use your wedding budget buying loads of decorations (unless you want to!)
- An experienced and empathetic team to help guide your planning and to coordinate your wedding day – we are hands on owners, and we take yours and your guests experience personally
- A venue that appreciates that all our important life celebrations happen around beautiful food – so we employ a fantastic kitchen team to provide just that
- A team that ensures a smooth and helpful experience for your suppliers so that they can focus on what they do best, whether capturing enduring moments or bringing the party!
- A venue that appreciates & delivers on the little touches – the comfort of a blanket and firepit on an Autumnal evening, an umbrella at hand on a rainy day, fire torches lighting the path on a dark evening, iced water at the ready on a Summer’s day (if British weather plays nice) and a welcome smile to help guests know where to park and where the front door is ready for them.

Debbie and Steve were very prompt with communication and we booked to view after confirming they would allow our dog to be part of the day. Wow, the chapel is stunning and the light floods in creating a truly special place. We knew nothing would compare and agreed a date. We loved how it was family run, it always felt personal and Debbie knows the venue inside out. It took the stress away and the attention to detail was meticulous. In the lead up to the wedding we went up for Sunday lunch and attended the open day. We knew our guests would be well fed and Debbie would create our vision for the day. They have plenty of decorations which are free to use. The day itself was perfect and everything as expected. Many guests commented how much they loved the venue and how great the food was, including the portion size. They also plan to come back for Sunday lunch! I was nervous when we heard you were not around but honestly it could not have gone better. Mark was fantastic – the food was out of this world and he went out of his way to look after and entertain some of the older guests in the upstairs bar when the band was a little loud. One older couple in particular were ex-military and said they had never met a nicer more interesting person in their lives. He made their day. Very very good staff, attentive friendly never false. You were made to feel like they really care about everyone's experience there. The food was amazing!!! the goats cheese and pudding in particular. The light in the venue was amazing for photos! And maticulos eye for little details which the Bride and Groom a sure me was the venue and not them... well done! We shall be returning for Sunday dinner very shortly even if it's an hour or so away from us!!! We had a truly amazing day and would just like to extend our gratitude to Debbie and her team who were all utterly fantastic. They made both ourselves and our guests feel calm, relaxed and very welcome and could not have done enough for us to make sure we were happy on our big day, despite the rain. The venue and it's setting is absolutely stunning and has been restored impeccably, the people are lovely , professional and very accommodating and the food was fabulous! We had so many guest comments on the beautiful setting and how wonderful they thought the food was on the day. Special mention also to Mark the chef who’s canapés, wedding breakfast and evening cheeseboards was absolutely sublime! They helped make the day as special as it could have been. Travelling from the South, drive through the arch at Bolton Abbey on the B6160 to Burnsall and carry on for roughly 3 miles. Pass the left turn to Eastby / Embsay and we are on the right - you cannot miss the imposing Tower! Turn off the Sat Nav once you get to Bolton Abbey though or you will end up on a farm!

What is your venue's most unique feature?
The venue and site is grade 1 listed being part of the curtilage of Barden Tower. It has that genuine historical ambience whilst also having subtle modern improvements.
What part of your business are you most proud of?
The personal touch of being a genuinely family business (all family members contribute!) Also the refurbishment of the Old Chapel. Taken 12 years to get there but well worth it.
