Nestled in the heart of the Hertfordshire countryside near the village of Throcking, Milling Barn is a romantic and refined barn wedding venue full of rustic charm and historic character. This stunning 17th-century oak barn blends timeless elegance with original features such as exposed beams, high ceilings, and soft ambient lighting. The space is bathed in natural daylight by day and transforms into an atmospheric setting for dining and dancing by night. Milling Barn offers couples a relaxed yet breathtaking backdrop for their special day, complete with countryside views, a charming patio, and space to celebrate from ceremony to last dance.
Facilities and Capacity
Milling Barn can host up to 144 daytime guests for your ceremony and wedding breakfast, and welcome up to 250 evening guests to continue the celebration into the night. The venue includes three beautiful and versatile spaces: the Oak Barn, ideal for romantic ceremonies; the spacious Milling Barn for dining and dancing; and the charming Dairy Barn, perfect for drinks, mingling, or additional seating. A private dressing room is available on-site, giving you and your party a relaxing space to get ready. Each barn is equipped with a fully licensed bar, and you are free to add your own personal style with decorations throughout. With exclusive use and a seamless flow from vows to celebration, Milling Barn offers everything you need for a truly unforgettable day.
Food & Drinks
All food at The Great Barn is prepared in-house by the venue’s experienced chef team, offering couples a choice of menus tailored to different tastes and seasons. From relaxed dining to elegant multi-course meals, the kitchen focuses on fresh, beautifully presented dishes that complement the barn’s warm, welcoming atmosphere. The selection of drinks you offer your guests is entirely your choice. We can run a pay bar throughout the day and evening, alternatively, you can decide to pay for all your guests drinks. More often we will put together a ‘drinks package’ of reception drinks after the ceremony, wine on the table and a toast from our extensive cellar.

- LLorraine05/11/2018A great day but poor pre-event communicationA great day but poor pre-event communicationThe most important thing to note here is that on the day, Milling Barn were fantastic. Everything went really smoothly and the service staff were excellent. The food was exceptional and the overall management was good. What I will say is that before the day, the communication from MB was quite frustrating. We spoke to a lot of different people and had to chase on responses to our queries. Invoices were sent on their due date even though queries were outstanding, and some of the staff didn't seem to know the answers to some basic questions. I understand they're a relatively new venue so can forgive some of the hiccups. Hidden costs to be wary of: tree lighting (£75 to light up the oak at the front), patio heating (£125). Be warned: no where to take pictures if it's raining outside! They wouldn't let us use any of the surrounding barns, which was disappointing and we have very few pics of us as a couple because we just couldn't use the grounds due to rain. All in all, we had a great experience with MB. I can't express enough how amazing the catering was - the best wedding food we've ever had!
