So I hate having my photo taken....and so does my (new) husband. We were planning our wedding for June 2014 and after seeing the work on David's website while pondering whether to bother with photo's at all for two definitely not very young people with camera hang ups, I called him. His is a soothing and non intrusive presence, right from that first contact. A glimmer of hope dawned....we met, we talked, me skittish and self conscious, and horribly flustered and late to arrive - but we booked. There is a presence to David that is hard to explain, as he is never in your way, never gives instructions (unless you ask him to) and rarely speaks directly to you to get a shot - but his ears are as faultless as his eye, his timing the same, and his skill, when we saw the shots of our rather low key wedding, just took our breath away. He told a story, of a beautiful, poignant and memorable day with just a single posed shot (which was also beautiful) and never a forced moment anywhere. I doubt I will ever be easy in front of a camera, but David's photographs showed me a person I know (not a frozen rabbit in the headlights of a car, my usual experience) and he caught the subtle unspoken conversations that were happening between myself and my husband throughout the day in some wonderful pictures that show an attention to detail and body language that surprised and delighted us when we saw the end results. Wonderful character shots of friends and relatives too, many so good we think of them as art rather than photographs. Amazing, impeccable timing.....he knows exactly when to press the shutter. Would we use him again? Without hesitation. We would cheerfully pay double what we did (and his prices are extremely fair) knowing how amazing his work is, and feeling so comfortable with his quiet sure footedness - and I would never trust anyone else to take a photo of a memorable occasion again. He listens, he thinks.....he never stops, is always moving, always alert for the shot he wants and you probably won't even know he has taken it such is his subtlety and quiet way of moving and being in your world without intruding in it. That, is real talent, which David has, in abundance.
