JOASIS PHOTOGRAPHY Full Description
My approach to photographing weddings could be described as modern and alternative to traditional, heavily posed, wedding photography. I work with my couples to create artistic but natural looking portraits; photographs that are unique and different as you are. I aim to capture the essence and atmosphere of your wedding. Weddings are extremely emotional events and you may go through a rollercoaster of feelings from slight anxiety to an abundance of joy and love. I want to memorise these moments, create a collection that will make you remember how you felt, how much effort you put in planning every single detail that make the wedding your own and unique; a collection of artistically daring photographs. I do that while helping you to be at ease when stress kicks in, acting as an emergency make up artist, fixing your dress when bridesmaids' nails are too long to fiddle with it, stitching mother's dress that ripped in a rush (none of these things may happen to you, but they did). Weddings are intimate affairs - finding a photographer you can trust and get along all day is important. It helps me, as a photographer, too. By the time we get to spend 9 or so hours together I make sure we know each other well through pre-wedding consultation/meeting, engagement photo session and frequent contact. Joasis Photography photograph weddings in London, Kent, East and West Sussex, Surrey and the rest of UK, and is available for destination weddings anywhere else in the world. Her work has been featured on Looks Like Film, Rock My Wedding, Love My Dress, Brides Up North, Huffington Post, Inspire Weddings, Mr and Mrs Unique, Style and the Bride, Magpie Weddings, and Rock'n Roll Bride. Jo lives in South East London with her partner Raf and their daughter Olivia.

Personal Message from the Manager

Name of Wedding Contact: Jo
My style revolves around creating artful photographs that are natural, ethereal, and unique. I want to capture fleeting memories and cinematic portraits; influenced by light and emotions and that intimate connection between the two people. I work in a documentary way with a good dose of creative, but relaxed, portraits. I will be privileged to be a part of your wedding experience.

Excellent photographer, with such beautiful photos!

I found Jo highly recommended on a bridal facebook page, and I'm very glad I did! From the beginning Jo was organised, and great at communicating. We met to go over what we wanted, and she put us both at ease with her professionalism and friendliness. I knew I didn't need to worry about this aspect of my day any more! On the wedding morning, Jo fitted right in with my wedding party and at the church and venue, Jo discreetly captured everything we wanted. She kept us calm, and considering we gave her such a small window for our couple photos, we were surprised with how many she was able to capture! We loved our photos, and the lovely way we received them! We've had lots of compliments about them, and are very pleased we chose Jo as our photographer. Her photos are beautiful, and she is a very reliable safe pair of hands!

Best day of my life

We loved Jo's artistic approach to photographing weddings. It is not the usual smoochy photos and we are not super romantic. We wanted to have a relaxed wedding and her documentary style suit us best. From start we knew we can trust her 100% and we did not get disappointed. Our photos are wonderful and we are very happy that Jo could be with us to document our big day in Sardegna.

Jo and RAF are the BEST

What can I say, JOASIS Photography are AMAZING. The photos Jo takes are artistic, natural and informal. Absolutely stunning. We had a pre-wedding shoot with Jo. This was brilliant because my partner and I were so nervous and I usually hate having my photo taken. This shoot put us at ease and helped us to know what to expect on the wedding day. As soon as we met Jo I knew we were lucky to have found Joasis Photography. On the day Jo and Raf were such a pleasure to have at our wedding. Many of our guests commented on how lovely they are. I hardly knew anyone was taking photos! Our wedding photos are more than we could ever have wished for. We now have such precious memories in our photos forever. We can’t thank them enough.

Truly Amazing

If I’m being completely honest I used to hate seeing myself in photographs and it was an aspect of my wedding I was somewhat dreading. But I look at my wedding photographs daily and they are amazing, I am beyond happy with them. Joasis can put any Bride or Groom who is camera shy at ease. She is also incredibly talented and creative. Her photographs are works of art and her photography would not be out of place as editorials. In addition to amazing photographs Joasis is so professional that your photographer is something you will never have to worry about when planning your big day. Fantastic!

Photos with a difference

Robert and I got married late September and received our full set of photos from Jo last week. I can’t stop looking at them and struggle to decide which ones to print- they are absolutely amazing (if I can say that myself!). Robert happen to come across jo’s Website as she lives locally and we both loved her style from the outset. We didn’t even enquire into any other phograpgher as we loved Jo’s photos so much. In fact, we asked her about her availability at the same time as our parents! Thankfully she was free. Once we met Jo we instantly knew we wanted to have her photograph us. We had very few photos of Robert and myself before we met Jo as we aren’t that comfortable in front of a camera. However, Jo made us feel straight at ease and we now have LOADS of amazing photos. We can’t recommend Jo enough.

I found out about Joasis via a work colleague and absolutely loved their style of photography. It’s contemporary, fun and not too staged. Jo and Rafa are super friendly, helpful and very talented at what they do. And the results are amazing. They captured our wedding day perfectly! Thank you Jo and Rafa :) xx

I can't rave enough about how happy we were with Joasis Photography.

I can't rave enough about how happy we were with Joasis Photography. Jo is just lovely and someone you want hanging around you and your guests on the wedding day. The pictures are wonderful and arty (in an unpretentious way) and capture all the action and little moments of the day - all our friends and family have commented on how great the photographer was. We were sceptical at first about having an engagement shoot but we had so much fun and it made us more relaxed for the big day; plus the photos were brilliant. We just received our USB in a lovely box full of little details. A big thank you!

FAQs
Find out a bit more from our FAQs

What is your most memorable wedding?

I am very lucky with my couples and each wedding I have photographed by now was truly unique. A festival wedding that was totally DIY-d by the couple and their friends has a special place in my heart - we have been so impressed by the level of planning, organisation and love shared on the day. Being included in the thank you speech made us feel very special too!

Describe your style in 5 adjectives.

documentary, creative, modern, daring, relaxed

What about your business are you most proud of?

I have created and keep developing my business while bringing my daughter up. Everything I have achieved so far is a fruit of hard work and I am eternally grateful I can do a job that I truly love, that brings my 100% job satisfaction, that makes so many people happy. I would not swap my life for anything else! If I had to choose one thing I am really proud that would be my website - I have built it myself and everything you see there is a result of my vision and work.

What is your No. 1 wedding planning tip for couples?

You are getting married to each other, not to your families or friends. Plan the wedding like you want it! Think what you love, what are your passions and what is most important to you on your wedding day, and plan it accordingly. Delegate and let go - remember that there may be a couple of things that do not go according to the plan BUT no one will notice! I promise! And have fun! (That is so much more than 1 tip!)

What is your favourite personal touch you have seen at a wedding?

There are so many! I loved totally personal place cards that featured a polaroid photo of either the bride or groom and a guest. These were funny pics too!

Describe your typical process with a couple.

My business operates on building a connection with a couple from the very first enquiry. I find out a little bit more about their wedding and if I am available on their date I suggest a non obligation meeting/consultation in London. If it is not feasible, we arrange a phone call to chat about their wedding day and how I can help. This stage is very important to me. I take a limited number of bookings each year so it is essential that we are a good fit for each other - ultimately we will spend 10 or more hours together! Booking process is very simple. Short booking form to fill, followed by 30% deposit payment and we are ready to sign an online contract (super easy!). I offer affordable engagement sessions to all my couples - it is yet another opportunity to meet and chat about the day in more detail. Plus they get a set of creative photos to keep or use for their wedding if they want to (stationery/welcome signs/guest book, slideshows etc). Throughout the time leading to the wedding I am in touch with my couples and available to offer advice, supplier recommendations and generally getting all excited about their plans. Proud to say we often become friends by the time of their wedding day!

What is the No. 1 photo that you think every couple should take?

I always ask the couples to sneak out after the dinner to take a natural portrait at the golden hour (just before sunset). It also gives the couple a minute to contemplate on their wedding day and have some brief intimacy before returning to their party.

What is the most original photo you’ve been asked to take at a wedding?

T-Rex chasing the wedding party! It was dinosaur and lego theme wedding so this was not completely out of the blue.

What do you recommend for a rainy day wedding?

Good humour and on a practical note - wellies and umbrellas for fun shots! There is usually a break in the rain too so simply do not worry about it!

Describe how you got into photography.

I learnt photography with a film (now pretty vintage) Nikon camera 14 years ago. I loved street photography and I wandered the streets of London, partly sightseeing, partly looking for hidden beauty in shabby nooks and crannies. I shot my first wedding in 2009 and I fell in love with this genre. Since then I photographed weddings and children on a part time basis while having a different career in market research. The birth of my daughter in 2012 has been a life changer - I wanted to spend more time with her and I finally felt ready to follow my dreams! Here I am now - still living the dream.
