The Pilgrims Rest is a 600 hundred year old Wealden Hall House situated in the medieval town of Battle in East Sussex - right in the heart of 1066 country. With endless features from huge inglenook fireplaces to ancient beams; linenfold doors to oak floors, The Pilgrims Rest is an historic gem. It even has ancient witch’s marks to ward off evil spirits and a secret tunnel that runs beneath the Abbey walls. Perfect for small weddings, intimate weddings and those a little larger, The Pilgrims Rest is a wedding venue with a difference. There are no hidden extras, no corkage charges and no fixed suppliers, giving you the choice to have a DIY wedding, a fully catered wedding or anything in between. The Pilgrims Rest is an exclusive use wedding venue run by our friendly and professional team who will guide you on the run up to, and on the day of, your wedding, ensuring your day runs seamlessly. A stunning backdrop for your wedding without the added expense of venue styling and prop hire. Professionally designed and styled to need little decoration, but one you can add to and make your own, every detail has been carefully considered creating a wedding venue that is beautiful yet relaxed; affordable yet aspirational. Quite simply a truly magical place to tie the knot. Far more than just a beautiful building; this grand old lady has historic soul. She has hosted celebrations from Medieval banquets to Georgian balls, Victorian luncheons to Edwardian tea dances. Over the centuries flagons of ale, goblets of wine and flutes of champagne have been consumed beneath her eaves, to the sounds of merriment and laughter flooding through her walls. Perfect for weddings all year round; during the warmer months and when the sun is shining - your guests can flood out into the pretty cottage gardens. The Perfect VenueThe Perfect Venue
We got married here in August and I can't recommend the venue and the girls enough. Amy and Amy-Lou were such a pleasure to work with and made the planning process so easy. The venue is beautiful and needs minimal additional decorations, which meant we were able to add our own little personal finishing touches. Both girls dealt with my million emails and calls and constantly guided me through the whole process start to the hangover the next day. I would 100% recommend The Pilgrims Rest for any wedding. There are no words I can say that can thank the girls enough. It was perfect. The LutensWe got married here in August and I can't recommend the venue and the girls enough. Amy and Amy-Lou were such a pleasure to work with and made the planning process so easy. Went to a wedding here 23rd November. My husband was the Best Man. What a beautiful venue. A fabulous Tudor building which has all original features. It lends itself to such an intimate occasion. What can I say about the staff.........amazing. From the owner Becka to the 2 Amy's, to all the staff. You all went above and beyond to help create the most amazing day for Nick and Teresa. I celebrated my birthday in this charming venue. It was amazing! The venue is cosy and the decor is full of rustic charm. The flexibility of DIY vendors was very appealing. I had a memorable day from start to finish, just as I imagined. Both Amy's bent over backwards to ensure everything went well. From initial contact to my celebration was smooth- thanks to these lovely ladies. They looked after all the fine details that made my day truly special. The memories will linger forever. What do we recommend about The Pilgrims Rest? EVERYTHING! The building itself is simply beautiful and the provided decorations help to reduce costs on venue stylists etc and they are always complementary to the season. The DIY element helps you to have the wedding you want, not what you’re told you have to have. Choosing your own suppliers adds to the fun and unique personalisation too. The no corkage charge is also obviously a huge help! We would also recommend going over to France and the Calais Wine Superstore - we got all our wedding wine for 100 guests at under £200 and they tasted great too. The two dressing rooms are beautiful and provide great space for getting ready with your nearest and dearest (and also are amazing backdrops for photos)! The dining room feels like something out of Hogwarts (when my fiancé said that to me I was sold from our first visit). I personally feel the venue lends itself to an autumnal cosy or Christmassy vibe due to the fires, but I’m also sure it’s just as suited to any time of year wedding. Lastly, the Amy’s. We love them. Everyone loved them. They truly went above and beyond to ensure everything went to plan. Nothing was too much trouble. We are beyond happy to have had our wedding at The Pilgrims Rest, it helped us to have a wedding day beyond our expectations and like no other we’ve ever been to. We actually wished we were guests at our own wedding. Possibly the best review I can give is... I’ve been dreaming (and secretly planning) our wedding day for the past 13 years. When we got engaged and actual allowed planning went into full swing, we saw the venue online and had to have a look. After our first visit, we looked no further. We knew it would be perfect. It was. Only thing is, we may have to unfollow you now on all social media as we feel sad seeing other people have fun there now ours is all over! We held our wedding at Pilgrims Rest on May 18th 2019. The wedding day was perfect and was made even more special thanks to the venue. Pilgrims Rest is a wonderful wedding venue. It has history, character and charm. The DIY aspect really makes sure that the day is exactly as you imagine. The ability to supply your own alcohol without corkage is a huge benefit. Both Amy's were fantastic. From our first meetings we had absolute confidence that we were in safe hands. They responded to all questions promptly and met all of our ideas with enthusiasm and made planning a wedding easy. On the day they went above and beyond and made sure that everything ran like clockwork. The Pilgrims Rest has a great selection of approved suppliers, we especially recommend the Boxed Girls and DJ Dean! The Pilgrims Rest is a brilliant venue and very worthy of a 5 star rating! Travel Notes

We are right next to Battle Abbey behind the pretty rose garden - you can't miss us! There are plenty of hotels and B&Bs within walking distance of the venue - some with parking. The train station is about a 10 minute walk away which goes from Charing Cross and Tunbridge Wells in one direction and Hastings in the other. East Sussex has no motorways which is what makes it particularly beautiful. Take the A21 from the M25, go straight on and you will arrive in Battle. Turn left at the roundabout with King Harold's sculpture and when you see the gate house of Battle Abbey turn right. We are right next to it.

Where’s the best photo spot at your venue?

The window overlooking The Abbey in the Bryant Bridal Room has wonderful light and beautiful old windows. With such an amazing historic building there are lots of great backdrops for photographs from old sandstone walls to stunning panelling.

Have you had any celebrity guest or wedding at your venue?

Yes, but that would be telling!

What’s your favourite canapé?

An old timer - devils on horseback

What’s your favourite midnight treat?

Chocolate of any type

What is your venue's most unique feature?

The vaulted Great Hall for the ceremony and then dancing with its inglenook fireplace.
